What is Uppsala Student Union?
Uppsala Student Union is an interest organisation run by students and for students. Everyone who is studying at a university or a university college in Sweden is required by law to be a member of a student union (this requirement will be cease to exist as of 1 July 2010). For the students at Uppsala University, the two alternative student unions are Uppsala Student Union or the Pharmaceutical Student Union, Farmis, where only students at the Faculty of Pharmacy can become members. In other words, Uppsala Student Union is the approximately 33 000 students who are members in the Union (which makes us the largest student union in the country). Uppsala Student Union is the collective voice of its members and the defendor of their interests.
What does Uppsala Student Union do?
Uppsala Student Union works to improve student welfare and the studying conditions for all its members, and to fight all forms of discrimination of students. This is done by lobbying and influencing the University, the Municipality and the Government, but also by organising and involving our members in order to create a strong, united student voice. Furthermore, Uppsala Student Union supports individual members who have experienced unjust treatment and defend their rights.

How do I sign up for membership?
Bring your admission notification and photo ID and go to the student NATION of your choice. There, you can sign up for membership in both the nation and the student union. If you are 20 years old or younger, bring a copy of your High School diploma.
If you do not wish to take advantage of the nations' services or social events, you have the opportunity to join the free, passive nation Skånelandens. In that case, you go to Uppsala Student Union's reception and register as a member in the Union and in Skånelandens nation. You can also send/fax/e-mail a copy of your admission notification to the Student Union. A semester bill and a registration form for membership in Skånelandens nation will then be sent to you by mail.
