Vocational Contact

For most students, the goal after having finished one's education is to
enter the labour market. Hence, it is very important that the students
are well-prepared for what awaits them when they cross the threshold
from studies into working life. Uppsala Student Union therefore
believes that every education should include a professional aspect with
clear links to the labour market. Such an introduction to professional
life also constitutes an important part of the Bologna Process' goal of
"employability".

A professional aspect can mean anything from working on real cases and projects to guest lecturers, study visits, placement studies and projects, internships, and so on. The overall objective should be to link the theoretical knowledge to its many practical forms, in the lecture hall, the laboratory and in the seminar room. Uppsala Student Union believes that an active interaction between the studies and the professional world will stimulate students to learn more, as it will become easier to understand the practical use of the theoretical knowledge.

It is the wish of Uppsala Student Union that all students have the opportunity to experience an introduction to working life in the course of their education.

In connection with the conference  “Arbetlivsanknytning – hur gör du” which took place on 26 February 2007, a folder (in Swedish) on linking the professional world with the student world was put together. The folder gives inspiring examples on how the various departments in Uppsala University work to link their studies to working life.
