Phd students at Uppsala University are members in and are represented by Uppsala Student Union's Doctoral Board. 

The Union has a Doctoral Board that consists of one representative from
each faculty's PhD Student Council. The Doctoral Board monitors questions related to research education locally and nationally and is independent.
Uppsala Student Union even has a Doctoral Ombudsman, working part time
to take care of Phd students that are experiencing problems related to
their education.
