New students are arriving in Uppsala every day, and they need to be assisted in a lot of different ways. This increases the work load for us here at the union, but it is a fun time of the year. Wherever you go you see happy new faces with anticipation and exitement in their faces. Yesterday I went to museum Gustavianum with my friend and got to see some objects that were used in the initiantion rites for new students back in the olden days... it was not a pretty sight. I have to say I'm thankful for the fact that today, the initiation constists more of pub crawls and silly games, not of torture and humiliation. Uppsala can sometimes feel stuck in time, some traditions make you feel nothing has changes since 1477. After seeing the pliers used for the initiation rites back in the day, I have to admit that some things have changed, for the better!
